“My First Lie and How I Got Out of It” is one of the best-known humorous stories by Mark Twain (pen-name of Samuel Clemens, 1865-1936). First published in 1899, it is a satirical piece on the difference between the innocent lies of children and the most dangerous “national lies” imposed by politicians. This edition also contains a selection of Twain’s best aphorisms and a biographical note on the author.
