Nurse Robin Thale had no desire to leave her hospital job, even temporarily, to visit her sick, possibly dying uncle, in a small colony in the north of Michigan. Her reluctance had two the inclement snowy weather in the North, and her wish not to seem to be coveting her uncle's money. So she was relieved to find that a young doctor was the possible heir and that she might indeed not inherit at all. Her relief was short-lived, however; adding insult to autocracy, the old man indicated he expected her to marry the doctor.
