Peregrino infatigable, Jorge Ibargüengoitia (1928-1983) procuró mantener en sus viajes dos constantes: evitar una actitud de turista (jamás practicó el azoro ante un paisaje tipo tarjeta postal) y describir, en cambio, los detalles pequeños -mas no insignificantes- de su entorno, encontrando así un espacio para practicar su demoledor sarcasmo. ¿Olvida usted su equipaje? es un paseo centrífugo por algunos de los textos que el autor elaboró en el periódico Excélsior entre 1969 y 1976, y que se reúnen por primera vez en este libro. Comienza en la ciudad de México, parte hacia provincia y se amplía con sus observaciones sobre España, Inglaterra y Egipto.

Jorge Ibargüengoitia Antillón was a Mexican novelist and playwright who achieved great popular success with his satires, three of which have appeared in English: Las Muertas (The Dead Girls), Dos Crimenes (Two Crimes), and Los Relámpagos de Agosto (The Lightning of August). His plays include Susana y los Jóvenes and Ante varias esfinges, both dating from the 1950s. In 1955, Ibarguengoitia received a Rockefeller grant to study in New York City; five years later he received the Mexico City literary award.
