Oor Wullie Annual for 1987, published during September 1986 with ISBN 0851163831 The Oor Wullie annuals (Our Willie) started in 1941, and have been issued bi-annually for each odd numbered year ever since (excepting 1945 and 1947 when there was a war-time paper shortage). They have always been published during the September of the even year before for the following odd year - in common with nearly all annuals, publishing during the August or September before is done to capture the Christmas market. The Oor Wullie annual alternates with 'The Broons' annual (which is produced for even years but printed during the preceding September's odd year) and both have become iconic and much loved Scottish institutions.
