Peter Woodthorpe
Author · 1 book

British actor Peter Woodthorpe featured in a number of theatrical firsts. He played Estragon in the first UK production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot in 1955 - the play’s success forced him to chose between completing his degree at Cambridge University, or acting full time - while in 1960 he played Aston in the first production of Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker at the Arts Theatre in London. He is perhaps best remembered today as the voice of Gollum in both the animated film version and the BBC Radio adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings.
