A short story available to subscribers of the author's newsletter. For a long time I’ve wondered what would happen if Harbinder met Nelson. Would they get on or would Nelson resent this new, young DI? What would Harbinder say in answer to ‘Jesus wept’? I had an idea for a short story where Ruth and Nelson, in London with Kate, had a chance encounter with Harbinder and Kim. But how could I also include Max Mephisto, given that he would be 113 in 2023? The resulting short story is called ‘Ruth Galloway and the Ghost of Max Mephisto’.
