The debut book of the series is called, Welcome to Scareville. When "Scareville", a store specializing in the sale of all things creepy and unusual opens in a former funeral home in the sleepy town of Lakewood, Ohio, the whole town goes insane with anticipation. Carson and his friends are avid horror and Halloween enthusiasts and are eager to see what it's all about. They quickly begin to realize there is something very wrong with the store owner, Mr. Enstrom. Shrouded in fear, mystery, and strange occurrences, Mason and his friends embark on a mission to find out the sinister truth about Mr. Enstrom and "Scareville".

They are taken to a campground on Summersville Lake in West Virginia, completely isolated from society with a group of other kids needing a change in their lives. After one of the camp counselors tells a creepy campfire story of the grimmics that are said to roam the forest at night, strange occurrences lead Bender to believe the story is more than just legend. Whatever you do, don’t go into the woods at night!
