A mystic and a feminist, Rosario Castellanos opened the way for other Mexican women to become writers. She published eight volumes of poetry, and in 1972 anthologized them in a book entitled Poesía No Eres Tú (Poetry Is Not You), from which the Selected Poems was assembled.
