Taken from their planet and their century, they are…the Lost Soldiers. Diagnosed with MS, Major Rodger Murphy was stateside-bound on a Blackhawk from Mogadishu when it was hit by a surface-to-air missile. Somehow, however, he didn’t die, nor did the others in the helicopter with him on that fateful day in the 1990’s. Instead, they were captured by an almost-alien race and put into cold storage. Recovered over a hundred years later, Murphy and his compatriots wake to find themselves rescued by the officers—and truly alien allies—of the Consolidated Terran Republic. But Murphy and the other refugees from the Twentieth Century—the so-called “Lost Soldiers”—are now untold light years from Earth, where everything and everyone they once knew are long gone. Granted, the friendly forces who’ve rescued them will retrieve them on their way back to Earth as soon as they complete an ongoing mission. But in the meantime, Murphy and Company need to accomplish a small task of their seize a planet and establish a base of operations. They will have to recruit allies and capture enemy equipment to sustain them until the main force returns, and Murphy’s troops have to do it with little support and fewer resources. As if that isn’t enough of a challenge, it’s just Murphy’s luck to also be the victim of Murphy’s the only Lost Soldiers who could be spared for the job were the losers and ne’er-do-wells who weren’t considered useful enough to take on the main mission. Defiant and determined to prove that assessment wrong, they gave themselves a different, more suitable Murphy’s Lawless. Authors and reviewers are raving about the Caine Riordan "Fire with Fire and Trial by Fire blend ruthless political pragmatism, advanced aliens with subtle and dangerous agendas, and human courage, determination, and sacrifice into an action-filled story that keeps readers up late. Very late, in my case. You should already have Chuck Gannon on your shelves. If you don’t have him there, rectify your oversight immediately!"—David Weber "Raising Caine unveils a lot of thought-provoking ideas but ultimately this is a space opera adventure. There are space battles, daring emergency landings, desperate quests, hand-to-hand combat, and double-and-triple crosses. It’s an engrossing read…an intergalactic thrill-ride."—Fantasy and Science Fiction Book and Audiobook Reviews "Gannon's whiz-bang second Tales of the Terran Republic interstellar adventure delivers on the promise of the first (Fire with Fire)…The charm of Caine's harrowing adventure lies in Gannon's attention to detail. ...The dozens of key characters, multiple theaters of operations, and various alien cultures all receive the appropriate amount of attention. The satisfying resolution is enhanced by the promise of more excitement to come in this fascinating far-future universe."—Publishers Weekly Starred Review
