The latest Shorty Thompson adventure from Paul L. Thompson has arrived! Hugh and Margret Hodges bought the Baca land grant five miles south of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. It ran four miles to within a half mile of Puerto de Luna. That land ran in the Pecos River valley those four miles then ten miles west upon rolling, grass-covered hills. Mateo Baca smiled as he said, “This land has been in my family for over a hundred and twenty years. The orchard we put in fifteen years ago but it also has many younger trees. I am old and will now go live out my life in Albuquerque with my wonderful grandchildren. These papers, no one can ever take your land. But I must say, be ready to fight to keep it. Many big cattle ranchers are moving in to the east as well as down river. When they see what you have and will build, they will want it. Some are greedy, others good men.”
