Respected leader. Fierce warrior. Cosette Newland has attained her goal, although she never expected it to be against an enemy force from off the planet. Cosette has a situation, one she is sure she has the ability to solve. She has a collapsed entry point to the cave, abducted personnel, and an alien ship hovering outside, watching for anyone who emerges from the cave. She has no idea why the aliens took her people, but she is determined to get them back. With limited personnel and weapons that do little damage to the aliens, Cosette devises a daring plan to strike fast, rescue her people, and flee. But even if she manages to pull off this suicidal endeavor, the chances are high that the aliens will just return and do more damage to the cave site. Cosette knows she needs an edge when it comes to battling this enemy. She finds that edge in the most unlikely of places—strange creatures that have their own hatred of the aliens. Despite the new allies' assistance, they are still outnumbered and outgunned, though, defending a cave that could be brought down on top of them. As the enemy approaches, Cosette struggles to formulate a plan to keep them all alive while wondering why she ever wanted to be a leader.
