#2
Romeo and Juliet
Sixty-Minute Shakespeare Series
1990
This highly acclaimed series makes Shakespeare very accessible and is found in all 50 U.S. states, all Canadian provinces, and 45 countries.
The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare series is an ideal alternative for those who lack the time to tackle the unabridged versions of the world's most widely read playwright. Professor Cass Foster has judiciously condensed (without modernizing) the Bard's richly poetic language. He has skillfully retained the integrity of the text, allowing students to experience the thrill of the stories as well as the captivating imagery in the prose and verse.
In addition, the author has provided helpful footnotes on nearly every page explaining the more arcane words and phrases to help the reader better understand and appreciate each play.
You will find the practical suggestions clearly laid out for staging, pacing, and thematic exploration very useful. Scenes flow smoothly from one to the next, maintaining a continuity difficult to find in other condensed versions of the Bard's works. Each script is approximately 70 pages.
The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare series might be for you if...
Your students rely too heavily on classroom discussion in order to understand the plays.
You lack the time to introduce all the plays you would like your students to be familiar with.
You lack the time and resources to stage a fully-mounted Shakespearean production.
You are curious why schools in all U.S. states, all Canadian provinces, and 45 other countries are working with the Sixty-Minute Shakespeare series.

Sixty-Minute Shakespeare
The Tempest
2023
The Tempest, a story about family, treachery, and love, revolves around a father’s magical manipulations that control his daughter’s romantic fate and exact revenge upon his enemies. The lead figure, Prospero, uses magic to shipwreck his brother, Alonso, and Alonso’s companions after they steal his position as Duke and leave him and his daughter, Miranda, to die. Much like its title, the play explores not only the stormy seas called forth by magic, but the whirlwind of emotions that rule Prospero’s actions and those of his foes. In the end, calmer seas prevail. Miranda’s happiness in finding love leads Prospero to forgive his brother and to eventually ask the audience to also forgive him for his selfish actions. Sixty-Minute The Tempest is written in a manner true to the Bard’s intent, while being presented in a condensed form that can prove less daunting to some readers. The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare condensation of the classic is also a more approachable production for some schools and theater companies because it only takes 60 minutes to stage, rather than the three-hour commitment of the original play. Cass Foster’s The Tempest does not modernize the prose and verse, but instead provides the kind of rich experience, loyal to the original, that only a lifelong master of Shakespearean Theater could create.
