Growing up on one of the quadrant’s most popular star stations, Morgan Drex has spent half his life fantasizing about one day wearing the sleek blue-and-gold outfits and tall, gleaming black boots of Earth’s elite Star Guard. Those dreams have almost faded when he meets Evander Redshift at the Lunar Bar one night. A tough officer who has traveled the galaxy, Evander offers Morgan a chance not just to become a Star Guard, but to become a man as well. That won’t be easy for a guy who has never left the space station where he was born and whose family has already mapped out a career path for him in the local casino. Somehow, Morgan has to muster the courage to accept Evander’s offer and take off for the stars.

Cadet Dustin Ezerus is thrilled when he learns that his hero, intergalactic ambassador Praex Gallilu, is passing through the quadrant. Better yet, he's stopping at the academy to offer a lecture and accept an honorary degree. Dustin wastes no time in getting himself appointed to show Ambassador Gallilu around. If things work out the way he hopes, he'll be showing their distinguished guest more than just the academy's architectural features. What he has in mind involves a much more intimate introduction to the student body...or at least one body in particular!
