After killing two of them and running the other one out of town, he runs into two Texas Rangers who question him about the two dead bodies still in the street. After a suitable explanation, and finding out who Jess is, the two Rangers invite him to ride with them after a ruthless killer, Sid Black. Jess declines, wanting to make it to Stratton, Texas, to propose a business venture to Henry Stratton and finally take some time to rest up.
