Yuri Vynnychuk's literary style is instantly recognizable, being so different from anything else in Ukrainian literature; but the style of this novel is still different from Vynnychuk's other writings. Tango of Death is a novel about Lviv in the 1930s. The work deals with the fate of four rebel families: Ukrainian, German, Polish and Jewish. It is a fascinating story full of adventures, ranging from the the search for an ancient manuscript to the mystery of the "Tango of Death" performed by prisoners at the Yaniv concentration camp in Lviv. The book has become an instant classic of Ukrainian literature and has been nominated and won numerous literary prices, including among others prestigious BBC Ukrainian Book of the Year (2012), Bukvoid's Book of the Year in fiction (2012), and Jan Michalski Prize (2017).
