Thé Tjong-Khing is in 1933 geboren in Purworedjo (Indonesië). Na het lyceum en drie jaar aan de Seni Rupa-kunstacademie in Bandung kwam hij in 1956 naar Nederland om verder te studeren. Al snel kwam hij bij Toonder Studios terecht waar hij strips tekende. Sinds ca. 1971 werkt Thé full time als freelance illustrator, meestal van kinderboeken.
