In the 22nd century, living beyond death has moved from science fiction to science fact. However, a casual onlooker, from another planet perhaps, would never know it because those who have been brought back to life have been pushed out into the margins of society. Though resurrecting the dead is a new concept, discriminating against an entire population of people is old hat. This bigoted attitude towards the undead does not go unnoticed. A leader, known only as Mendel, rises among the outcasts and leads them on an assault against the very laboratory that made them who they are. The scientists there knew how to bring them back, but killing them a second time has proven much more difficult. Now the task is left to Daniel Justice, a scientist who pioneered the process that resurrects the dead, and a small team of his making to retake the overrun lab and find a way to dismantle The Cloud, a presence that is killing everything it touches.
