Philip Marlowe has just given evidence about a corruption matter at City Hall when an acquaintance hires him to accompany him to a private casino as protection. Are these two matters connected? What else is involved? If you've read Raymond Chandler before, you know the answers to these questions. Librarian's note #1: this entry is for the story, "Finger Man." Collections of short stories by the author can be found elsewhere. Librarian's note #2: in an earlier version of the story, Carmady was the lead detective. It first appeared in "Black Mask" in 1934. The story stayed, for the most part, the same.
