This was the first Novella ever published by the Dungeons and Dragons franchise between 06/1976 and 06/1977 over the course of the first 7 issues of Dragon Magazine, with 2 sections in #3 and none in #4. This was written by Gary Gygax under the pseudonym of Garrison Ernst. Oddly enough, this book has nothing to do with a gnome or a cache, but if you're interested in the Dungeons and Dragon novels, this is how it all started.
