Part of Series

Flora, Caleb’s Shoshone wife, is pining for her village, and Caleb is at a loss as to what to do about it. But whenever one door closes another opens. The guide for a wagon train passing through Bear Creek falls of his horse and breaks his neck, leaving the settlers without someone to guide them to their new homes. Caleb is not just the best guide in the area, he’s the only guide, and Bear Creek’s sheriff convinces the wagon master to hire him. Since the wagon train is headed for Wyoming, not far from Flora’s village in Utah, Caleb sees a way to cheer her up and make some money at the same time. Unfortunately, when a door opens, trouble often enters, and Caleb finds his hands full scouting a trail for the cumbersome wagons while, at the same time, trying to figure out what the secretive wagon master is up to. Things come to a head in a deadly way when they near their destination, and it will take all Caleb’s skills to get out of it alive.

I've been writing since my teens. In addition to writing for several newspapers and magazines in the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa, I've written two books on leadership and a number of fiction works. I'm also a published poet, photographer, and artist. I write in several genres, reflecting my broad reading tastes. I spent 20 years in the army, retiring in 1982 and becoming a diplomat. I've worked in about 10 countries and traveled to about 30 more, mining each for material to write about.
