Stephen Crane (1850-1893) is regarded as a master of American short story writing. First published in 1894, “The Men in the Storm” is one of his best-known tales. It is centered around the hard life of a group of homeless people. This edition also contains the enlightening essay “A Note on Stephen Crane” written by literary critic and painter John D. Barry (1866-1942) in 1901.

Stephen Crane (1871-1900) was an American novelist, poet and journalist, best known for the novel, The Red Badge of Courage. That work introduced the reading world to Crane's striking prose, a mix of impressionism, naturalism and symbolism. He died at age 28 in Badenweiler, Baden, Germany.
