Part of Series
This profusely illustrated book traces the history and the development of the gun, from the most primitive handheld cannon introduced some six hundred years ago, to the sophisticated prototypes under trial today. Between these extremes lies an enormous variety of guns, ancient and modern, from all parts of the world, many of which are available to collectors and to enthusiasts. A detailed account is given of the introduction and use of each type and class of gun with particular emphasis on the varieties of guns not commonly encountered and seldom described or illustrated elsewhere. The first part of this book describes how a collection of guns and other related objects may be built up, and an account is given of the care and restoration of firearms. Directions in which the collector may research his own material are described.
