Launching a new range of Classic Radio Sci-Fi releases, the renowned Quatermass Memoirs was first broadcast on BBC Radio 3 from 4 to 8 March 1996. It is a mix of original TV soundtrack and drama-documentary, in which Nigel Kneale reflects on the 1950s fearful atmosphere in which he wrote the classic Quatermass TV serials. The programme mixes the factual story with a dramatic narrative, in which the now-retired Professor Quatermass (played by Andrew Keir) reluctantly recounts his past exploits to a female journalist. This in turn is interweaved with soundtrack footage from the Quatermass TV dramas. The final touch is a stirring music soundtrack. Long-awaited by fans, this is another entry in BBC Audiobooks' Classic Radio Sci-Fi range. Other titles are The Day of the Triffids and Aliens in the Mind.

Nigel Kneale was a British screenwriter. He is best known for being the creator of Professor Bernard Quatermass. Kneale wrote four Quatermass TV serials in total between 1953 and 1979 as well as BBC radio docudrama retrospective "The Quatermass Memoirs" that was first broadcast in 1995. Kneale also wrote such programs as The Year Of The Sex Olympics, The Stone Tape and the 1989 adaptation of Susan Hill's novel The Woman in Black.
