After her father passes away, Theodosia finds herself in quite the predicament. She has to figure out a way to support her siblings and keep their home. Her childhood friend suggests he marry her in order to support her and her family, but on their wedding day, Theodosia calls it off at the last moment and flees the altar. Soon after, she meets the Marquis of Merlin, her childhood friend’s cousin, who came to make certain Thea wasn’t just out for money. During his stay, he tries to tempt Thea with his charm and money, but she keeps refusing him. Thea comes off as old-fashioned to the local villagers, which surprises the Marquis, for he seems captivated by her in every way.
