When Mr Tipkins, a rather nice wizard from the Department of Wishes, arrives to give a wish to a newborn baby in the village of Widdershins, he isn't in the best of moods. It doesn't help that the baby smells, the weather is foul and, worst of all, that he is forced to get there on a too-small magic cushion instead of a roomy carpet. His uncharacteristic burst of bad temper begins a chain reaction that has consequences no-one can foresee . Another fantasy novel with wizards, wands, magic schools and elves and this is a good one. Sure to appeal to readers (girls and boys) mid primary and up. Magpies Magazine.
