Belle of the Ball

2003

Beauty, Charm, and Grace—something the nouveau-riche Sullivan sisters of Colorado Springs lack. But a wish at a magical rock formation is about to change all that, in a most a-MUSE-ing way... The three Sullivan sisters, named for the Three Graces of Greek legend who embody beauty, charm and grace, don’t live up to their names. Belle is no beauty. Charisma lacks charm. And Grace is somewhat less than graceful. But this doesn't deter their ambitious mother from bribing three bachelors to escort them to Colorado Springs’ beautiful Garden of the Gods. When the girls overhear their escorts mocking how little they resemble their names, each girl makes a wish at the magical Three Graces rock formation. Belle wishes aloud for beauty, but only so she can use it as a weapon to punish the cads who hurt her sisters. Her true wish is for revenge. Handsome viscount Kit Stanhope regrets his rude remarks and apologizes to Belle. He’s surprised when she tells him that's not enough. If he truly regrets his behavior, he has to make her beautiful in time for the Founders’ Day Ball. Kit isn’t sure he’s up to the task. But, intrigued by the spirited Belle, he agrees to assist her transformation from an ugly duckling into a swan with the help of a mysterious Greek dressmaker with muse-like qualities. Unfortunately, Belle makes a rather awkward swan. Still, after a few embarrassing escapades, she masters the flirtatious language of the fan and takes the town known as Little London by storm. Belle soon finds herself falling for the viscount and his sinful mouth. It seems he returns her regard, but she can’t renege on her promise to humiliate him . . . can she? Will her secret muse grant the wish she voiced . . . or the one she holds in her heart? Note to readers: This title was originally published in 2003 by Zebra Ballad.

When the girls overhear their escorts mocking how little they resemble their names, each girl makes a wish at the magical Three Graces rock formation. Charisma wishes aloud for charm, but secretly hopes to make a difference in the world. When William Barclay, a candidate running for the Colorado congress, asks Charisma to be his platonic escort to functions in the city, Charisma is ecstatic. A suffragette-in-training, she can make Will see that rights for women are important. But her plain speaking almost ruins her opportunity before it even starts. Fortunately, a newly-arrived Greek widow in town agrees to tutor Charisma in the art of charm. And it works . . . most of the time. Even as Charisma finds herself falling for Will, she can’t stop herself from trying to help those in need, threatening her reputation in the process. Will she end up pushing Will away or will he realize that what he needs is an impulsive, plain-speaking, do-gooder? Note to readers: This title was originally published in 2003 by Zebra Ballad.

Beauty, Charm, and Grace—something the nouveau-riche Sullivan sisters of Colorado Springs lack. But a wish at a magical rock formation is about to change all that, in a most a-MUSE-ing way... But how can Grace resist the man who sees in her the potential and beauty no one else does? Jon fears he’s taking advantage of the Sullivans, especially when he finds himself sympathizing with an orphaned boy who is hiding in their home. But he finds himself intrigued and attracted to the lovely Grace despite her clumsiness. Will winning her love be worth the risk to life and limb? Originally published as Say Goodnight, Gracie.

I've been a reader all my life, starting out with fairy tales and graduating to reading everything in the house when I grew older, including my parents' romances, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and action/adventure.If a writer can combine romance and humor with a fantasy, science fiction, or paranormal element, I'm hooked. Add action/adventure, and it's even better! Since I couldn't find quite enough books that combine these elements, I sat down to write some of my own. The result is the books you'll see on my website. I now live in Colorado with my three dogs: Mo, Daisy and Trixie. Pseudonyms: Pamela Luzier (Fantasy genre) and Parker Blue (Young Adult urban fantasy genre).

Karen Fox knew at age twelve that she wanted to be a writer. She loved putting down on paper the adventures of those characters who came to life in her head so that she could enjoy them over and over. She was much older before she realized that everybody didn’t have stories going on in their head and wondered if this made her a little bit weird. Though she’s lived around the country and in Europe with her Air Force husband and three now grown children, she finds it exciting to imagine new worlds, new species, new adventures, and possibilities for the future. This excitement shows itself in her stories. Upon discovering the local RWA writing chapter in Colorado Springs, Karen went on to sell her first book in 1996 and has gone on to sell several more over the years. As one who believes by giving, she receives, Karen spent several years in several positions on the local chapter of Romance Writers of America—Pikes Peak Romance Writers, served two terms on the RWA board, and has also served over 20 years with the Pikes Writers Conference. She also works on the annual NINC Conference. To date Karen has published eight paranormal romance books with Kensington, Leisure Books, and Berkley, plus a novella with BelleBooks and a short story with DAW. Her second book, Somewhere My Love, was a RITA Finalist in 1998. Prince of Charming, a paranormal romance, was a winner for the 2001 Award of Excellence in the Paranormal Category and Finalist for the 2001 National Readers’ Choice Award. Buttercup Baby, another book in the contemporary fae line, went on to win the Booksellers’ Best Award. She’s also published two sweet contemporary romance novels and three short stories in the ongoing Dogwood Series.
