Billy Conners was nineteen years old, and was now seeing the pretty Miss. Linda Darnell, the new school teacher. They sat together holding hands in church every Sunday. Sunday afternoons, they went on a picnic down by the lake. Willard Donley was twenty-two years old and knew if he somehow got rid of Billy, Linda would be his. Friday, the last day of school, Billy was working with his dad, and couldn’t come into town until late. Willard was right there as Linda walked out of that school house for the summer. He walked in front of her, and grabber her arm. “I’m here to tell you, yer going to the dance with me Saturday night.” “I most certainly am not! Billy already asked me. Now take your hands off me!” “Oh, believe me, you’ll go with me alright, I don’t think Billy will be able to make it. In fact, I’m shor he won’t.”
