West of the River, Burn West's estate out in the Riverina district of New South Wales, was sufficiently far off the map for Frances to realise why Burn needed a nurse-governess for little seven year old Jason West recovering slowly from the accident that had crippled his legs. But nursing and teaching the child were not, it appeared, to be her only duties. Burn had made it clear from the start that she was never to leave Jason alone, never to go out with the child without an escort. But what danger could there possibly be in such a remote peaceful place? Just what was going on? It was hardly the time, then for Frances' old love, Scott Muir, to turn up and complicate matters still further!
