A collection of 25 stories written by talented authors. No two writers are the same, but they have one thing in common: they are storytellers at heart and their deepest desire is to be heard. Writing the Dream shares the stories of twenty-five Australian writers, from emerging to established authors. Some are traditionally published, while others have taken the self-publishing route. Some have faced rejection after rejection, while others have had a dream path. But, while their writing journeys are different, all of them strive to create, entertain, inspire and inform. And all of them have unique and creative voices that deserve to be heard. With contributors including Anna Jacobs, Juliet Marillier, Natasha Lester, Jenn J McLeod, and a host of other talented writers, the stories in Writing the Dream are set to strike an inspirational chord in every hopeful writer's heart.

Jenn J McLeod loves ticking things off her bucket list. So far she’s made that sea change, run that country B&B, and written that bestseller. In 2014, Jenn downsized her life and home is now a 3-tonne, 25-foot caravan named Myrtle the Turtle. With her Seasons Collection of four novels already adored by readers, Australia’s nomadic novelist is finding inspiration for more heart-warming small town tales of friendship, family, and contemporary country life. Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to pop by. Writing is an isolated occupation, so feel free to drop me a line! Okay, writers make the stuff up, but the stories only come to life when they get let out into the real world. It is the readers that breathe life into characters, and the readers who I hope to connect with. I'd love to hear your thoughts! find me at: contact@kyliekaden.com.au (or www.kyliekaden.com.au) (oh, and here's the official bit...) Brisbane writer Kylie Kaden is a self-diagnosed bookworm and recovering chocoholic. Raised in Queensland, she spent holidays camping with her parents and two brothers at the Sunshine Coast, where much of Losing Kate was set. She now lives in Brisbane with her husband and three young sons. As the only female in a house of males, Kylie tops up her sanity by writing whilst her youngest naps (and the washing mounts). She is adamant the next addition to the Kaden household will be female…and canine. Kylie graduated with an honours degree in psychology from Queensland University of Technology in 2000, but cites it helps little with meeting the challenges of parenting in the real world. She shares her frazzled parenting experiences in her regular column in My Child magazine, and is a strong advocate for telling it like it is when it comes to the struggles (and joys) of raising kids. After postgraduate study, Kylie went on to train and manage staff in both the corporate and government arenas, where she met her surfer/lawyer husband at an end-of-year function (at the pub). She wrote her debut novel,Losing Kate whilst on maternity leave from an executive role in the Australian Public Service. Kylie knew writing was in her blood from a young age, using her brother’s Commodore 64 to invent stories as a child. Her current novel took shape as she drank tea at the kitchen bench, often with a toddler on her lap and ABC Kids chirping in the background. Kylie considers being a novelist the best job in the world – what other occupation lets you wear Ugg boots to work and make things up for a living? Losing Kate, a Women’s Contemporary Novel was Kylie's debut (April 2014), published by Random House and later translated internationally. Her second novel, also published by Penguin Random House was the critically acclaimed, Missing You (2015). The Day The Lies Began - a domestic noir (2019) Pantera Press and One Of Us 3rd May 2022.

I was born in Germany and educated at an English boarding school while my parents travelled the world with the British army. I think the long boring plane trips home played an important part in helping me to develop my creative imagination. I settled with my parents in Western Australia in 1976, became a nurse, married young and had three children. Not surprisingly, it took ten years to complete an Arts degree (English lit) at UWA. In 1990 my family and I moved to a small farm 40 kilometers NE of Perth (Western Australia) where I established a Suffolk sheep stud, reared orphan kangaroos and embarked upon a life of crime writing.

Born in Sydney and now living in Perth, Monique Mulligan has loved words from the moment she could use them. She's told she used her words a lot as a child, earning the title of family chatterbox (and arguably still holding that crown). Once she could read, she devoured books with gusto - today, that enthusiasm is mirrored in her love of good food. A former newspaper editor, journalist, children's curriculum writer and magazine editor, Monique has had a varied career in writing. In 2011, she started blogging book reviews. Since 2012 she has interviewed authors onstage for the successful Stories on Stage program. Monique's first two novels Wherever You Go and Wildflower were first published by Pilyara Press and were acquired by Bloodhound Books in 2023. Sonia Bellhouse lives in Australia after spending her early years in England. Her passion for writing was inspired by Enid Blyton’s comment, ‘One day you might write a book.’ Her work has appeared in multiple magazines in Australia and the UK. Sonia writes Regency and Viking romance.

I was born and grew up in Perth, Western Australia, and am the author of five popular novels set in the Second World War. The latest is Ambulance Girls Under Fire, which is the second of a trilogy set in the London Blitz. And my non-fiction "Nursing in Australia: The Illustrated History" will be published by the National Library of Australia in November 2018. I am a former lawyer with a passion for history (and three history degrees to prove it!!). And although I love the clear skies, beautiful beaches and easy-going atmosphere of my home town, I also adore the dreaming spires of Oxford, UK, where I read medical history. I now see myself as a proud citizen of both cities, but for the time being am living in Oxford (although I go to Perth as often as I can). I use my research and legal skills to make my historical novels as accurate as possible, and my imagination to make them as entertaining as I can.
