Behind these bricks, life comes at you fast. And whether you're here by choice or circumstance, there are lessons to be learned as well as taught. Nobody knows The Bricks better than the women who live between them. These are their stories of lessons, blessings, love, and loss, brought to you brick by brick. Ladies, and fellas too, you ever invested time in somebody that you knew was no good for you, holding on and waiting for them to change because you thought that you were special? Well I have, and I’m here to tell you that there’s a one percent chance of that change ever taking place, a two percent chance of them becoming a better person than they were before you found them, and a staggering ninety-seven percent chance of someone more deserving coming along if you’ll open your eyes, stop being stupid, and sit down with a common-sense calculator to tally up your worth. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to waste a little time, because contrary to popular belief, there can be a happy ending on the other side of stupidity. And to prove it, I’m gonna take you for a walk through my own experience. I’m Camille, by the way, a resident here at The Rose Palms, aka The Bricks, apartment B17. Glad you stopped by.

I read it somewhere that even when beautiful things are lost, there’s still a chance that they can be found. And I believed that whole-heartedly because according to my grandmother, me and my sister were both beautiful things that had been lost by our mother and found by her. She always found a way to make poetry of the struggles that life threw our way. She made every day behind those bricks more livable by simply being who she was. Too bad she wasn’t around to help me do the same with the most unimaginable struggle life could ever throw at any mother. Thought I’d seen the worst of my days after all I’d been through. But life has a way of one-upping your suffering just when you think you’ve had all you could take. Hey, I’m Tasia, by the way, a resident here at The Rose Palms, aka The Bricks, apartment B17. Sorry about the mess, I wasn’t expecting company. But since you’re here, you might as well have a seat.

Nobody knows The Bricks better than the women who live between them. These are their stories of lessons, blessings, love, and loss, brought to you brick by brick. The Bricks made me who I am, and that's not saying much seeing as I've spent the bulk of my adult life finding myself, only to lose myself over and over again. Through my mind floats scattered memories of my younger days, when life should’ve been sunshine and rainbows, and instead it was storms and rain. Leaving things behind became a coping mechanism, so weighed down with baggage that I barely had strength to carry the things that mattered. Pitiful, right? Using my past as an excuse to ruin my future? Well you don't get to judge me for that; at least not until you hear my story. My name’s Keshia, by the way. I'm a resident here at the Rose Palms, apartment F58. Come on in. And be warned, my story isn’t one of those fluffy ones.

The choice to look back in order to move forward was the easiest choice I’d ever made. I’d spent my whole life not truly knowing myself, and my parents assumed that their love and protection would heal that wound. Unfortunately, all they did was cover it up, and one could only pretend to be whole for so long, before seeking actual wholeness took over their focus. And that’s how I landed in the Rose Palms, Apt. #A1. It was where my story had started, and where I’d finally know what it meant to be whole.
Oh, I’m Freddie, by the way. Watch your step and have a seat. And don’t mind the drumming from next door.
