The President's Gardens is an epic novel about Saddam Hussein's Iraq, following the lives of three friends from the beginning of the Iran-Iraq War to the aftermath of the American invasion. Abdullah loses twenty years to Iranian captivity before returning to learn the terrible truth of his birth. Tariq, the son of the local Sheik, avoids the army, and becomes a man of power and influence, able to help his friends but always careful to keep his own interests closest to his heart. Ibrahim loses a foot in the first Gulf War and his wife to cancer before taking on a menial job in the gardens of one of the president's many palaces - a job whose responsibilities will escalate beyond his wildest imaginings. The multiple, multi-generational stories woven together in The President's Gardens are brought to life by a vivid and memorable cast of characters, and may remind the reader of The Kite-Runner, The Yellow Birds and One Hundred Years of Solitude. Epic in scope, moving, philosophical and true, it packs an ocean of wisdom in its 400 pages, and has much to impart about war and oppression, love and marriage, fathers and daughters, and what it means to live under a murderous, totalitarian regime.

Qisma is afraid - afraid for her son, afraid that it is only a matter of time before her father's murderers come for her. The only way to survive is to take a slice of Iraq for herself. ــ ولد سنة 1967 في قرية ( سُديرة) شمال العراق. ــ تخرج من جامعة بغداد/كلية اللغات (بكالوريوس لغة وأدب إسباني) سنة 1989. ــ يُعد حالياً أطروحة الدكتوراه في جامعة مدريد (أوتونوما)/ كلية الفلسفة والآداب. ــ بدأ النشر سنة 1983، وحاز على جوائز محلية للشباب في القصة. ــ نشر مجموعته القصصية الأولى ( هدية القرن القادم ) سنة 1995 في الأردن. ــ نشر مجموعته المسرحية ( البحث عن قلبٍ حيّ ) سنة 1997 في إسبانيا. ــ نشر مجموعته القصصية الثانية ( أوراق بعيدة عن دجلة ) سنة 1998 في الأردن وإسبانيا. ــ نشر روايته الأولى ( الفَتيت المُـبَـعثَر ) سنة 2000 في القاهرة عن مركز الحضارة العربية، وترجمت هذا الرواية إلى الإنكليزية في أمريكا سنة 2002. ــ عمل في الصحافة ( كاتباً ومراسلاً ومحرراً ثقافياً) في العراق والأردن وإسبانيا. وله عشرات المواد المنشورة في الصحافة الثقافية في مختلف الصحف العربية داخل الوطن العربي وخارجه، وفي بعض الصحف الإسبانية. وتنوعت المواد بين:مقالات وتحقيقات ومقابلات وترجمات ونصوص. ــ قُدمت مسرحيته (البحث عن قلب حي) في مهرجان الشمال الرابع في إربد/الأردن سنة 1993. ــ ألقى العديد من المحاضرات الثقافية، وشارك في ندوات وأمسيات في العراق والأردن وإسبانيا. ــ ترجَم العديد من الكتب الأدبية من اللغة الإسبانية إلى اللغة العربية، ومنها: *مجموعة (المسرحيات القصيرة) لميغيل دي ثربانتس. *مختارات من الشعر الإسباني في العصر الذهبي. *مختارات من القصة الإسبانية في العصر الذهبي. *مسرحية (فوينته أوبيخونا) للوبه دي بيغا. *دراما شعرية (طالب سالامانكا) لخوسيه دي إسبرونثيدا. *الرواية الأوربية وتحولات العصر/ 21 شهادة روائية. ــ أسس سنة 1997مع الكاتب عبدالهادي سعدون دار ومجلة (ألــواح)؛ وهي أول مجلة عربية فكرية ثقافية في إسبانيا، ومازالت مستمرة بالصدور، إلى جانب سلسلة طويلة من عناوين الكتب التي نشرتها دار ألواح بالعربية والإسبانية. ــ له مجموعة قصصية باللغة الإسبانية. ــ له اهتمامات أخرى بالرسم والسينما والتلفزيون. ــ أقام في الأردن خلال عاميْ 1993-1994. ــ يقيم في إسبانيا منذ عام 1995.
